People are sad. Call it melancholy. Beneath the frenzy of the party, there is this underlying sadness that can’t be removed. It always comes back when the party is over. Is that all? Lets look a little deeper into this sadness.
This sadness is a divine sadness, the sadness of a famous clown Emit Kelly . This is the sadness of Buddhas first noble Truth. Life is sadness. But then he says there is a cause to this sadness, and seeing the cause, there is the cessation of sadness. People miss the mark because they think this is the cessation of life, withdrawing from life, since life is suffering. Withdraw…become an ascetic, live in a monastery.
No…that misses the mark. We we realize through and through that all is sadness, all is impermanent, all is dying..dying..and that there is no place we can go that sadness and death is not…the frog leaps. PLOP.
What makes the frog leap like a spring launched by this realization. This is the Buddha Frog who leaps spontaneously when the truth is seen through and through. PLOP.
What is the truth seen through and through? If all is suffering…why that is like if all were the color green….wait a minute, if everything were green I could not see green. I would need just one drop of another color in order for green to snap into place. If all is suffering and sorrow, then I could not even see it, I could not be conscious of it….unless I had one thought of not suffering, of me not suffering tomorrow, or in some other place, in some other pond.
Oh..WOW What is PLOP! Suffering ceases when I can’t see it, and I can’t see it when I accept and surrender to the truth of suffering…that life is death, and death is life…But I don’t get to the life in death until I see the death in life…In that PLOP death and life are one PLOP….and I am free.
