Trying to apply mythological or parapsychological blue prints to a reality that is always changing and creating itself is alway the futile attempt to control the future and remove uncertainty. It is one of our human pastimes. Science is the main tool we use to predict the future, but we have many other tools in our basket that attempt to connect to dots to reveal a cosmic or divine plan. Science posits no divine planner to the universe, so science can say how but not why. That’s when we come of with alternative theories to explain why, to give us meaning by giving us a place. It’s like assigning names to the stars. Some can see the doggy, others cannot. But it doesn’t change anything if you see the doggy in the starts or not.
Buddha. was a Hindu yogi who went through all the yoga systems of his day and finding them lacking, as a distraction to the essential point of awakening. This is why he just bypassed metaphysics and personal gods and goddess of Hinduism. When we simplify one just focus on mowing the lawn and washing dishes, just this actual moment we are living in, all the theories of the universe and the imagined and feared end of time (which is the imagined end of me) are a distraction from actually living right now. Everything the mind concocts, all its thinking, is just an avoidance of relationship with the present moment which is always timeless just now.
We tend to look at our personal life and collective life through the rear view mirror. We look there and see where we could have taken a different turn. We imagine a better world, a better place, but in. driving with our eyes in the rear view mirror—perhaps a Honda’s rear video screen which I like—we pay no attention the road we are actually driving on. We miss the beauty and the wonder, and all we see is how better it could be.
Imagination is our curse and blessing. We imagine a better tool (good); we image a better world (bad). The world we have is the only possible world. This is it. You are IT! You are the world and the world is you. There is no better you than the you that you are. If you imagine a better you, then you are avoiding you as you are, and that is the cause of our suffering and longing for a better world that will never exist because it is only our imagination.
But this doesn’t mean you can roll up you sleeves and help remove the pain of others. it just that you roll up your sleeves because you cannot do otherwise. Relationship with life is serving life, and life is perfect this way.
There is no end to Now. There is no beginning to Now. Now is eternal. Only man’s mind can conceive of time future and time past, but this time rises our of now like a fountain. We are not things that change, things that die and are born. We are change itself. This is the Buddha’s view, and Quantum Physics as well. Change cannot end.
