The integrating mind is a McGyver mind who uses what’s give to get out of a fix. These minds are polar opposites and cannot both function at the same time. Doc Martin as art, as metaphor makes these two mind works together as Doc Martin.
Doc Martin is a Persona and he projects his Shadow (all the messiness and imperfections onto the world), and this tension between his self image and the world generates the creative impulse of the Integrating mind. Doc’s heart has the pure intention to heal, but his mind is split into two polar opposites, perfection versus imperfection.
Corona creates a crisis in the street where Doc Martin must improvise with what’s given in order to save the patient. Like McGyver, he creates an ER in everyday situations using what’s given in a creative way. The Integrating Mind is not attached to names and forms like the Fundamentalist Mind.
As Metaphor, Doc Martin the art is both the integrating mind and the fundamentalist mind. His character holds these two opposites together, which makes him funny, an ironic character.
