We ride the up and downs of life because we have separated the elevator into an only Up elevator and only Down elevator, which we never, never push. Yet, when we push the UP elevator, at some points it always becomes the Down elevator, and we cannot understand how that happened. The elevator felt like it was going up. Now I have that sinking feeling of going down, so I quickly find another hope to push to get that going up feeling again.
You see, it is both at the same time. Up is up because it’s not down; down is down because it is not up. The whole is UP/Down, not Up or down. When our reference is the Whole, or Center, or UP/DOWN, then it does not matter if we go up or down because it is the same elevator. It is then that we always do the right thing….
The Right thing is no longer divided into Right (up thing) or Down (wrong thing). All actions are right/wrong, up/down. And yet there are right and wrong actions.
But If what I’m saying here makes no sense, let’s turn to Quantum Physics to clear things up (yeah, right). In Quantum there is no basic stuff or matter. All is potential, and it is our conscious selections of objects to be conscious of that makeup up and down. What is the elevator before we push a button? The elevator is up/down, potentially up or down, depending on our perception.
But when we lost sight of, the feeling that all is potential and whole, who choose blindly, or unwisely. Remember Indiana Jones? The elevator as potential is the Holy Grail. Choose wisely.
We are going up or down according to our viewpoint. If we are invested and identified as the up elevator we feel we are going up, but Down is immediately behind. And if we feel we are going Down, Up is potentially in Down. So every action is always potentially up/down, but we experience whether it is up or down by our investment or viewpoint.
Enlightenment or an awakening insight is when we get a view of the elevator from the ground floor, while we are in the elevator. That flash of the Sword of Prajna or dynamic wisdom sees that the whole is in the part, that Up/Down is in either up or down.
Gutei in this image holds up one finger. That One is the view from the ground floor, the One that is both up/down.
So how does this topic of Up/down translate into our personal lives? We are a relationship. Nothing stands alone. We are in a relationship with something, even when living in a cave.
In conflicts in a relationship I think I’m innocent and the dance partner is guilty. I’m right, she/he is wrong. And, of course, the other end of the teeter-totter feels the same way about me. The relationship is Me/it) Right/wrong; Wrong/right. Each end of the teeter-totter feels it is up and the other down.
But the view from the ground floor of the elevator or the park bench from the teeter-totter is that the elevator is Up/Down. Each end is innocent/guilty. It is a wound in the whole relationship to separate the relationship into Up or Down, innocent or guilty.
Yet, one end of the relationship is partially right and partially wrong. The wound is when the absolute conviction of I’m UP and the other is Down is believed in.
