Mind the Media

A new Eckhart Tolle quote to pull apart:

“Non-reaction to the ego in others is one of the most effective ways not only of going beyond ego in yourself but also of dissolving the collective human ego.” Eckhart Tolle

_____________

What is ego? So many definitions, so much confusion. It the Ego something? Lets for this discussion define Ego as a fixed View Point that is outside of what it is viewing. The Ego is in the audience, and the world as object is on the movie screen. The Ego reacts to what is going on the screen, either being attracted to the pleasant or being repelled by the unpleasant, or just not noticing the neutral. The Ego has this sense that it exists as a separate individual in time, with a past and future and history…a place in the scheme of things that is consistent. It big fear is to lose memory and the sense of self that depends upon the memory of the past, you know, like Alzheimers.

Tolle says “non-reaction” to the ego in others is the best way to dissolve the ego in one’s self but also the collective ego..Hey, what’s that? Is there a collective View Point? Well, yes. Just watch the media and the way you interpret what’s happen, your opinion about what’s happening is the collective Ego or a particular point of view. Remember a “point of view” is a point of meaning. The view we take of the objective world is the meaning we give to the objective world. The world does not have any meaning in itself. It is a screen upon which we project meaning from our point of view. Basically in. our nation the view is either from the Left or the Right. We see one face of reality or another, but what we actually see is the same. It’s our view that changes the meaning. Basically, we have One reality but. two contradictory or polarized views. And all the while we are sitting is a fixed view point of our living room watching the Media as if it were a mind with ourselves in this mind as a view point.

The the cat sitting on the floor watching the screen, It probably won’t notice it unless there is something moving on it, and it really doesn’t see the difference between that and a laser dot on the wall. To the cat the Media TV screen is not a world. The screen is not a wide window into a world with its as a view point, a person in that world as the observer. Turn on the TV, turn on a world and enter it, reacting to what’s happening, getting all stirred up while sitting calmly on the sofa. Why it’s like putting on a 3D video headset and going through a portal into an alternate reality. That’s it. Media is an alternate reality that we believe is as real as the living room we are sitting in.

Get the picture. Plugged into the Media Mind, one’s Ego is an emotional puppet being played by the dancing dots on the screen. Zoom in on the screen and you will just see pixels dots. We notice this when a storm passes between the dish and the satellite. What is the digital break up but the reminder that we are just watching a bunch of dots. The world we are reacting to doesn’t really exists. And neither does the Ego. We are not conscious of our view point. The Ego is unconscious. When the screen breaks. up into digital dots, we are suddenly aware that the point of view that believes in the TV world is not real, but just a projection room with an audience and a screen. The collective Ego is the audience that is sitting in a theater in a multiplex theater where we can select which viewpoint to enjoy. There is the Liberal Theater and the Conservative Theater, and the Alt Right Theater, and Black lives matter theater, and the Cops Theater, and the LGBT Theater, and the Trump Theater…and on and on…Get the idea?

Lets bring in Gestalt psychology to help pull apart this topic. Gestalt is the idea that we perceive a total reality prior to ego perception, and then ego selects from the totality the view it prefers with the meaning it is conditioned to project. Awareness AS is reality before you are aware of something that the mind as point of view selects. The Gestal is transcendent to the selective reality, like the background is blurred behind the object we zoom in on. Look at your hand close up. The background totality of the room is blurred. All you see and have interest in is your hand. The background is the Gestalt. But what the Ego does, since the real background is blurred is project its own story. of reality behind the objects we observe, and out story of reality gives meaning and value to the foreground we select to observe. Awakening is putting on a wide angle lens and becoming aware of the Gestalt. Then what we observe is referenced to the totally instead of our story of the totality.

Therefore, the Media is a packaged story, to a degree, that provides a “gestalt” for the mind watching the media. We don’t see the projected story or narrative in which the content finds its meaning.

When you mind is freed from its attachment to the media’s point of view, the media then becomes a fertile ground for creative ideas, for understanding. Understanding is the creative connection of seemingly discounted dots or points of view. Understanding creates a greater gestalt that includes dissonance points of view. Understanding happens when we are not attached to our special point of view. Understanding is the surrender of the Ego’s fixation on certainty. Understanding is the relaxing of the Ego’s need to be fixed and certain by its singular point of view. Understanding is the understand that all points of view, positive and negative, are spokes leading to the Truth or gestalt that is always transcendent of any point of view, but never captured by any point of view or understanding…the Gestalt always alludes the point of view that is chasing it. Like a wild unicorn, it will not lay its head in your lap until your mind is empty of all points of view.

What is understanding? How do we get it? Understanding is the operation of awareness as Inclusion. Understanding is alignment with the expanding universe. Every assumption is the boundary of our point of view, so current understand lies within the wall of our current point of view. But the Wild Unicorn calls us to transcend the walls of our assumptions, and include that which lies behind. When the wall of assumption is dropped, the. universe immediately expands as a whole gestalt. Understand does not come in tiny gradual steps but all at once. And yet with every new understanding, a new wall of assumptions appears to create the tension and the call for more understanding. An expanding universe does not tolerate walls.
