You need no permission to be who you are. I expose myself here, but first I expose myself to myself. I have the intention of making my unconscious conscious, which means not hiding from myself. I play hide and seek with myself, always finding myself hiding in the unconscious bushes. I tell the tale of my running from my true nature by seeking permission from any spiritual or institutional authority to speak my Word. I have a list of them which I shared in this talk. But it was always the same. Who am I to be who I am. I need permission. I need credentials. I need support, a label, I need to fit into some established category. I need to follow a path already prepared. None of that worked.
frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; encrypted-media” allowfullscreen>So I create my own path. Life is too short to wait for permission. And you will never get permission to be your true self, because only you can give yourself permission to be the unique person you are. You have to create yourself. If you let someone else create you there will always be a rub, always this chaffing with your ready made clothes.
In this talk I summed up my whole life, really. I saw it in a nut shell, and I cracked it upon like a squirrel. When you unplug yourself from the tyranny of the SHOULD you become unplugged or authentic. You create yourself spontaneously in the moment. You don’t know what you are going to say because you have never existed before this moment. You are the Unborn. You are born again, and again, and again, every moment you are born again when you are authentic.
WE are talking about affirming yourself no matter what, no matter who doesn’t affirm you. Affirming yourself is creating yourself. Creating yourself is not knowing your self. If you know your self, you have already created yourself. You are fixed. And you spend your life defended your fixed self. When you create yourself, that doesn’t mean create a new fixed self, no, you remain creative, continually creating yourself as conditions change. You create yourself with changing conditions so you always remain authentically you, alive and vibrant. Life is the Now, and the Now is always changing…so you have to get in alignment with the changing Now. And this means you cannot cling to anything in the past or to the known, which is in the past.
We are talking about Being instead of Becoming. When I seek permission to BE, I am interesting in becoming something special, something with credentials, authority, a reference outside of myself to something respected, like the church or the university, or maybe a book. Yes, then I would have credentials. But we are already always Being. Being is Now. One cannot be Now. But in chasing Becoming, we are actually avoiding Now, our Being. Seeing that ends the game.
