I can’t speak for the rest of America, other than what I read and hear through the internet, but here in my Virginia town of Blackstone, Urban Buddhism is here in me. Blackstone is urban surrounded by farms, so it’s the best of possible worlds, so I’ve been practicing Blackstone Buddhism, if you want me to be cute. My practice in the interior practice of a monk, but my exterior wears the clothes of my society. However, I do have a lot of Buddha and Hindu statues in my house, among with some Jesus stuff also, so my exterior trappings are integrated and that defuses the belief I’m of a particle false belief.
I think what keeps people from finding the sacred in their lives, of getting in alignment with the truth of their lives, is that they don’t want to look different, even in their families. They don’t like that conflict when people look at them with a little fear in their eyes that they dare to be different. When you suddenly change your exterior image, you make people think there is something wrong with their external image. You make them question their own alignment with truth. The algae doesn’t like clear water.
I must confess that I’ve been avoiding my true heartfelt intention, my Dharma. I keep getting closer to it through my talks here on FB and my writing on FB. But in my community I’m a coward. I settle for being the Blackstone eccentric. But it saddens me that here in my community I must find my identity on Facebook. Here I can be myself. I know many of you feel the same, that here you can be more in alignment with your heart than in your community or, maybe, even in your family.
So, like Jake Sully in Avatar I want to take it to another level. I know that Intention is everything. Will is everything and when you get in alignment with your heart Intention, your intention will create the world you need, the opportunities you need to work itself out. Intention creates opportunities; intention creates what material you need; intention feels right, opens you up, clears away the obstacles. Intention of the heart is the intention of the Cosmos itself. You are the world and the world is you.’’
The problem is that the Ego wants to be special. Period. Then the Ego want to get rid of the pain of the Ego, so it joins special traditions that proclaim they are Ego free. The Ego then gets to be special and not special at the same time. The Perfect Trap.
