What is a False Idol and how it works as a social movement like the Cult of Trump, which replaced the Cult of the GOP. Trump just gave the GOP false idol which was a principle flesh and blood. Trump gave the Law flesh and blood, gave it a human face, a god/man. I say god/man because a False Idol is a substitute for God. An Idol is a form that is given absolute being. We believe it won’t change or die. And when we moor ourselves to a false idol, we too feel timeless and full of inexhaustible power, but without that idol we feel empty, so we can’t leave for fear of being swept out to sea on the current of modern changes. When our world changes, we look for a rock we can moor our ship too.
Trump—and Moore is a surrogate of Trump, an Alabama Trump—is a creation of our times where a segment of the population feels it is being swept out to sea by an unseen rip tide. Trump just tells them what that rip tide is: It’s the immigrants, or blacks, or gay, or feminists. The name changes but the feeling of the current doesn’t. When you name something you feel you have power over it. But the Current here is not caused by some Alien, but by the conditions of our own success.
Modern world is the success of liberal, secular, democratic, capitalist, and scientific forces coming together to create our Comfort Civilization. But this secular scientific civilization has thrown out the baby with the bathwater when it left the dome of the Middle Ages. which was a mix of science and religion. Religion gives you a center, a certainty, and meaning to the incoming data of the senses. Religion creates a world in which. you find a place. The secular scientific world does not, especially if you are out of a job. The you need something to moor your ship to.
Along comes Trump who will restore your power, and your center…through him. Give you center and your power to me, and I will save you, is his basic message. And he maintains his power over you by being ambiguous. Whatever he says has two meanings; the left says wrong, the right says right. Same face but all his messages are ambiguous, so that he can throw mean dirt on his enemies while at the same time claiming innocence. He never speak in clear and distinct ideas, which is the way the secular scientific world knows what is true and what isn’t. Trump is like a poem, a metaphor that can be interpreted in two opposite ways. This is why Trump does not fit in our rational reality map, and because he doesn’t play by the established rules, he confuses us and captures attention and escape responsibility for his actions. He creates power through duplicity, the very thing that defeats traditional candidates for power.
