The Martini Priest is a metaphor that puts two incompatible poles together, a positive and a negative battery, as a metaphor that I hope will turn on your lights. Spiritual metaphors turn on your awareness because the make you leap beyond the limitations of logic. Our minds are logic conditioned. And logic says a martini is a martini, and a priest is a priest..so there is no such thing as a martini/priest. But I am saying I am a Martini Priest. So there is such a thing. I’m IT!
What it mean then? You have to listen to my talks to know what a Martini Priest does or is. One is what they do. Everything does something, and its definition is defined by what it does, its use. So what use am I? If you enjoy my talks, that’s a use. If you find your imagination stimulated by seeing beyond your usual horizons, that a use. If you feel better about yourself, that’s a use. If you become more conscious, more aware…that’s a use.
The Martini Priest also serves the Eucharist, not wine and break but gin and vermouth, which is wine. It is served in a beautiful chalice. It has a recipe just like the Eucharist. But the priest will never tell you what the recipe of Transmutation is. He will not tell you how that factual bread and win is transmuted into the Body of Christ. Even if he knew, he could not tell you. So that is a metaphor. The Eucharist is a metaphor. You are certainly not just eating some bread and having some wine with Anthony Bourdain.
Wait…Anthony Bourdain is a metaphor, for his shows are a Eucharist where you are able to integrate with the cultures he visits and experience them as your own. Whatever integrates, whatever unifies, whatever heals….that’s the Eucharist. Don’t but the Eucharist in a church box. Liberate it. Religion does not own the Eucharist. Release the Eucharist through metaphor so it can heal your life, so you can become part of the Body of Christ wherever you are, not just in church. Why even a Martini can be a Eucharist….if you have a priest.
