The irony of the Parkland Students

March 22, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

We’re shifting from Jesus to irony and the awakening of the America Teenager. Aroused from their isolated adolescent sleep in video games and social media, turning their back on the Adult world, the American teen is aroused and socially engaged, We shall see how many turn up this weekend in DC. The will come to the march like student run joyously to a fight in the school yard. But now the fight is to evoke social change. Isn’t that interesting.

And the irony of it is what awoke these teens but another teen, who also had a cause, a death wish to destroy his world, and usually the shooter kills himself. Death is the only way out of the double-bind of the mind when it feels it is denied access to reality, to its society, which in the case of the student is his peers and school and community. Ostracized from that, that death wish germinates, becomes compulsive and the teen is seized by the Idea of death, and now the only way he can exorcize this Idea of death is to DO IT.

Then the students he attacked (remember this is teen on teen), are caught in a double-bind. When they do nothing, they get shot, and the adults don’t do anything but prayer and thoughts. There is a coalition of individual teens into the ONE TEEN or Self. They speak as a group; the voice is that of the group, all teenagers who are getting shot. This is new.

Usually teens are fragmented into isolated units in this long passage from childhood to adulthood. Some never grow up until they are 40. We live in a society of delayed adolescence. The teens has been denied the rightful passage to adulthood…but now…but now..they are creating their own passage. Isn’t that interesting.

Human life, all life needs a passage from childhood and life with the mother to adulthood and life in the world as functioning adults. Denied that passage the individual turns violent, either against himself taking drugs and cutting themselves and blowing up the world. IN our society the only passage from childhood to adulthood is the military and boot camp.
