Digging deep into the dough of the Baker’s Choice we find some interesting ingredients. I think we are at the bottom of our current Value War that has been going on for five decades since the 60s, when we found ourselves with to recipes for American Values. Patriotism is a value, and in the 60s it was divided into two recipes, and the Left and the Right values divided so that we have two bakers for the American Bread.
Now everything that pops up gets divided into these two recipes, which have become institutionalized. No one has control over the Baker’s Knife that divides the dough into the two recipes. Like a knee jerk reaction, the society just chops everything into two doubts, each going to a different America. The ONE America is lost. There is no reference to it. The original recipe has been lost. Grandma died and took it with her.
You got your Liberal Bread and your Conservative Bread. Which do you want. But we inherited our preference because, you know, for 50 years we’ve been cooking like this in our Two America Bakery. Our choice is now unconscious. Red or Blue is tattooed in our mind.
The only way out, I believe, is if someone cooks a new loaf that combines the best of the Left and Right bread and serves is, and if people like it, a stampede to the new Bakery will sweep the nation. Taste is everything. We choose what tastes good….something is wrong with the Left and the Right Bread now. We remember deep down what Grandma’s Bread tasted like. If we every tasted that bread again, we would recognize it.
