We’re talking about Mindfulness and how it power washed your mind of suffering. Mindfulness can restore you mind to its original wood, removing the mold and dirt of accumulated postures and mental dysfunction. Mindfulness is the background awareness that notices what you mind is doing, but without judgment. Mindfulness is impersonal and doesn’t give a crap about what you are doing, if you are right or wrong. Mindfulness just notices, like the window notices a rain drop, or the floor notices a cricket, or like the sky notices a cloud or the pond notices a ripple.
We’re talking about the great liberation from the storms of the mind but intentionally directing the mind to move over the ground of mindfulness, where it will break up. We love our hurricanes of the mind and we actually don’t want them to break up because they have hope. The eye of our mental hurricanes is Hope, hope that tomorrow I can be rid of this storm. Or I’ll just wait it out, ride it out, and, like a woman forgets the pain of labor, gets ready for a new storm and a new hope. The storms of the mind, like hurricanes, will never stop until we nudge the mental storm over the ground and off the warm water of our culture.
Culture, the American Culture supports and encourages hurricanes of the mind because it makes us buy stuff, it makes us believe in a future salvation if we could just get our life in order, get more stuff or validation.
But the ground that breaks up the hurricane of the mind, the thought storms, is Awareness or mindfulness. Mental postures can’t stand the stillness of mindfulness.
