The Darkest Hour really inspired me because like the King’s Speech, this was a movie metaphor about finding your voice, finding your Word that heals your divided soul. When the mind is divided against itself, the Soul cries in pain, but it is the Soul that must come to the rescue for it is the Soul (or the Heart) that can only speak in One Voice. The mind can speak with a forked tongue, dividing, parsing, calculating, being clever, compromising, bargaining..all of that. But the Soul cannot do that, yet the Soul sleeps behind the mind like the British monarch sleeps behind the mind of Parliament, powerless to act in the world. The mind is the actor, but when the mind is divided, only the Soul can come to the rescue.
When the Soul finds its voice, it’s Work, the mind unites behind it like the Parliament united behind Churchill during the war. Churchill was the voice of the British Soul. And so each of us must find out voice that does not tremble, that does not stutter, that speaks with no apology. When the Soul finds its voice, it’s Work, the mind unites behind it like the Parliament united behind Churchill during the war.
