When everything is a metaphor, you have a poetic mind, an artistic mind, a creative mind. You are making form, you experience, transparent to the transcendent, and the transcendent is reality fresh and new and full of potential. Reality is ONE, and the transcendent points to that Oneness. The transcendent is truth as revelation. AHAH! Eureka! I see it. WOW! That is Awesome! And then you write a poem or paint a picture or give a Facebook live talk to capture it in language and share it.
Metaphor is the way we communicate Truth as transcendent, Truth that transcends conventional experience and definitions. Truth that is known is objective truth and the realm of empirical science. But the Insight, the Eureka that creates the new theories and inventions is transcendent of the known, of our experience which is already defined and stored in memory.
When you free yourself through long spiritual practice, meditation, mindfulness, study, some yoga, you detach your mind from your storehouse of the known. You still know what things are so you can catch a bus and you are not lost, but the known becomes transparent to the transcendent, or reality fresh and new like a new born infant. The experience of this is Joy.
Joy is the experience of being liberated from the known. Awe and even terror is liberation from the known. In Shock and Awe there is no thinking and no reference to our storehouse of definitions and behaviors and habits.
Were talking about cleansing the windows of perception so we don’t see the world through a rear view mirror. When everything is known and defined, that known is the past; that why we know it. We only know what is past. So we are conditioned to paint the window of perception with the paint of the past, what we know. The wold become opaque. But it’s more like a mirror that just reflects back on us what we already know. We then live in a hall of mirrors reflecting what we know to infinity. This drives us mad. We are transcendent beings, we humans. It is our DNA to transcend, to discover, to explore, to SEE the world fresh and mysterious. When we have lost that, we descend into madness, the solitary cell of the Known.
Life without surprise is hell. Ironically, we want to go to heaven where there will be no surprises. Our image of heaven is solitary confinement in the the known. Why, if we get there, we will have to create the Devil just so we can have a surprise.
