I’ve been reflecting on the two dimension of time, the horizontal and the vertical, but in our western reality since the Middle Ages only the horizontal dimension has been on the map, the time you can measure. But the vertical time can’t be measured because this is the center of the merry-go-round of measured time. This center doesn’t move. Horizontal time is not a linear strip of time, but a film of memories wrapped around you like film on a reel. We sit at the center of time and watch our memories of time flow around us, past time and imagined future time…but in order to view that time, something must be outside of time, a center of time.
Where we get into trouble is that we create that center of time as our Ego, the view point outside of time. But that view point is a false projection room. You are not a view point. We create this view point outside of time and form so we will have a stable point we call ME. This ME is, however, just a. thought in time. It has no substance. That’s we we are so anxious. We know this view point of ME is not real because it fears time, worries about tomorrow.
But our True Self IS Time. True Self is empty of ME that is a view point in time. Imagine this. You are in a stream swimming. You can swim abasing the stream or across the flow of the stream, and you feel your power. But if you stop swimming and flow with the steam all resistance drop. You feel no self as a thing swimming against the stream. You are the stream. You don’t know where the stream is going, but you are the stream, so you are OK. But we are trained like salmon to go against the stream.
You see, we don’t trust the Stream in our culture. Swim. Fight. Struggle…These are our commandments. We don’t trust the stream of life. Life, nature, has to be controlled. Liberation from the suffering of time begins when we surrender to our true nature, which is Time itself, the Vertical Time that is always already Now.
