When we identify with a political party, it is a False Ido. When we identify with a religion, it’s also a false Ido. When we identify with anything, it’s a false idol. What is a false idol? An idol is anything that be believe is absolute, and the absolute is an emissary of God on earth. So anything that we believe won’t change or die, any form inside or out that can’t die is a false absolute. In search of the absolute in. things, we create false idols. This is the primary teaching of the Buddha: all things are impermanent. Reality is change, not things that change, but reality IS change. There are no nouns that exist on their own. All is a verb.
And yet, we have to have a fixed point to stabilize our mind, to keep us orientated in a changing landscape. But that fixed point is not in form. Our true nature or center is Knowing itself. This is the Awakened mind that does not depend upon any thing because all things are conditioned.
