“Surrender is perfectly compatible with taking action, initiating change, and achieving goals. But in the surrendered state a totally different quality flows into your doing. In the state of surrender, you see very clearly what needs to be done, and you take action, doing one thing at a time and flossing on one thing at a time.” Eckhart Tolle (from A New Earth)

Surrender comes naturally when we see clearly that the situation is ambiguous, which means that you lose no matter what you choose, since both choices, both poles of the dual moment are the same but opposite. Ambiguity is really the non-duality of duality. What?
Take this Gestalt image as metaphor. The Old Woman and the Young Woman are opposite images yet they are they same because you can’t choose one without choosing the other, no can you remove one without removing the other. Change one, change the other. That is the terror of ambiguity because it’s the end of choice. You can’t choose.
BUT, when awareness seen that life is ambiguous, the Awareness chooses, but there is only one choice, not two. You cannot help but choose ambiguity when ambiguity is all there is. And when happens when you surrender to ambiguity? You become creative action. Creative action comes out of surrendering to ambiguity because creative action is not a choice either. You just do it, and you are surprised and informed by what you are doing.
In our Western culture the paradigm requires that we live on the periphery of our life, on the outside of experience (objects) looking in. We are I-IT. Everything is a noun, including us. We live on the earth like billiard balls bumping into each other. There is no center. But we long for the center, we long to be at the center of the cosmos…the One that has no second. We even define God that way, but we really want to be THAT.
We can’t because we believe we have to choose between being at the Center as Subject (wherever that is) or being an object. Our maps only has objects on it. There is no center on a flat map. But still we believe we must choose. And that is the point. From the Subjective center there is no choice because every choice takes you home.
Now use the GPS map as our new paradigm, our paradigm of the New Earth. On this map you are always at the center, and you are always going to your destination no matter what road your choose, so it makes no difference what you choose, does it. Every choice is going home. Now you might say some choices get you home faster, but that flat map thinking. If being at the center of the world is Home, then on the GPS you are already always Home. And yet you are also going someplace as an object on a flat map.
AMBIGUITY! You are not home/you are home. Choice on the GPS map is both necessary and not necessary. Can you see this? When you live at the center of the world, it’s as if y ou are on a GPS map. You are always already home, yet you have things to do.
