Notice your reaction to the title. What…God is a disease? Gets your attention doesn’t it. This is a reversal of what we are taught to think, that disbelief in God is the disease. So how could God be a dis-ease. Well, you have to listen to the talk. That’s the point of the title. You should be curious to see what I’m talking about. If you just blindly react with a knee-jerk response…that itself is dis-ease.
Whenever we awaken to the Good News, we discover what culture/religion said was bad was actually very, very Good. Parents and culture vaccinate us against the Good. And then the Good is perceived to be the Bad.
“Don’t meditate” an Evangelical told me once. “You will let the Devil in.” We are vaccinated against the Devil by religion, but we are always attracted to this “devil” aren’t we. Whatever we are vaccinated against is always knocking on our door. Usually we let him through the back door where Main Street won’t see, and the Devil becomes our secret friend. We even invent ways to wipe away his tracks so no one we know we had tea in the basement.
The Good News of the Gospel is that there is no Devil. And with no Devil no guilt, and with no guilt, no anxiety, and with no anxiety, no fear of the future. How how could state/religion operatic without fear of the future. If religion actually freed us from guilt and fear of the future, the churches would be empty. That would be the Good News.
But secular society is no different than religion, except it doesn’t project either God or the Devil out there as the Boss. But it creates its own Laws of Anxiety to hold us in its congregation, tithing, and waiting for the next best thing to liberate us from an dis-ease.
Religion/state vaccinates us from this Good News that our true nature is GOOD, and I mean really feel good GOOD. Thinking you are good but feeling kind of out of sync, a little off, means there is still a bit of the dead god in your from that vaccination. You immune system is still fighting off your True Nature of Goodness.
Our current fear of vaccinations is really a metaphor for our vaccination against the Good News. When the world is inverted as it is, the external world is a metaphor for the real world that is not upside down, the real world that is in union with its Source, that is whole and good. The world created by state/religion has been inverted so that the Good News is not now but in the future. When you create time and live in it as the only reality, the world becomes inverted, and what is Real appears as Unreal, and what is Unreal appears as Real. We become immune to this truth.
Religion is the opiate of the masses. It keeps us enslaved to the powerful who want us so high we cannot see our own shackles. But other religions (ie Buddhism, shamanism, whatever) are equally to blame and were created for the same reasons: to teach us to accept the status quo. To promise there is more than this life. That there is justice somewhere. That there is hope, somewhere. And all will work out, somehow. The astonishing miracle of our existence as beings made of elements forged in the deaths of stars, that may look and understand our singleness in the Universe makes us special. We make our own reason. We make our own Why. We make our own justice…or not.
Yes religion/church is the opiate of the masses, however the keys to transcendence are still locked in a safe box hidden from both the priests and the masses. One has to dig down through the floor boards to find the hidden key to the Kingdom of Now. Religion as church is an institution of culture, and culture is like an orange peel that believes only in the peel, the surface of the external order. All depth is disbelieved in, for if the juice of the orange were discovered we would no longer be content (and discontented) with eating the peel.
