“Time is what the ego lives on. The stronger the ego, the more time takes over your life. Almost every thought you think is then conceded with past and future, and your sense of self depend on the past for your identity and on the future for its fulfillment.” Eckhart Tolle (from The Power of Now)

I first encounter the idea (not a thought) that Thinking IS time with the teaching of J. Krishnamurti in the late 60s. But the ground was broken for this Idea earlier in the decade when I had the sudden and surprising shock Idea that I was not my thinking. I still remember that Light Bulb flashing. I, as all of us, are conditioned to believe that we are our thinking. Our culture is a Time Culture that is always believing in a better moment, place, thing or action in the future and that we can repair the regrettable past. We are Time Travelers.
We make good stuff, always creating the Next Best Thing, and we hungrily wait for the next best idea that will improve our miserable Now. But our Time Conditioning is making us angry. The Scientific Utopia of the 50s when Science would create absolute comfort died in the 60s. We have found no Utopias that will liberate us from time because we are looking from freedom from the suffering of time through thinking, which is time.
