“Not all unhappiness is of the pain-body. Some of it is new unhappiness, created whenever you are out of alignment with the present moment, when the Now is denied in one way or another.” Eckhart Tolle (from The Power of Now)
We know when our car is out of alignment because it likes to drift to one side of the other and requires constant vigilance. You can’t take. your hands off the wheel. And so we like to be out of alignment with life, because then we have to keep out hands on the wheel. We like that.
Who would I be if the car was a robot car? Could I enjoy life if I didn’t have to steer? Could I be the driver of life if life drove itself? We buy great road cars because they give us the power feeling of being in control.
This is the irony of pain, the irony of the mis-alignment with life. The pain of being out of alignment gives us the pleasure of being in control. The pleasure creates the pain.
