” Do you resent doing what your are doing? Are you carrying unspoken resentment toward a person close to you? Realize that the energy you thus emanate is so harmful in its effects that you are contaminating yourself as well as those around you.” Eckhart Tolle (from A New Earth)
What is resentment? Basically, resentment is a rub, like a pebble in a shoe. For many this is like Descartes I Think, therefore I am: I resent, therefore I am. Resentment is a negative way of heightening a sense of a unique separate self. When everything is perfect, there is no rub, and no Sense of Separate Self. We need that rub like heroin. Even when everything is perfect, we will create a rub somewhere. We actually resent the world for these rubs.
Here’s the irony. You are the world and the world is you (J. Krishnamurti). When you resent the world because it rubs you the wrong way, you actually resent yourself. Life is one scowl after another.
