“All suffering is ego-created and due to resistance. All inner resistance is experienced as negativity in one form or another. Negativity ranges from irritation or impatience to fierce anger, from a depressed mood or sullen resentment to suicidal thoughts. All negativity is resistance. You can stop negativity from arising by beng fully present. ” Eckhart Tolle
Christmas Eve is all about the coming of the Light in the middle of the dark and cold winter. Call it the Christ child or your own consciousness, no matter what, it is still about the retreat of negativity and the cessation of suffering or negativity. It is not the negativity that is the problem but the holding of it, the identification with it, and the belief in it.
In the Practice of Christmas Eve, one welcomes the negativity so that you can once more know the coming of the light and the cessation of the negativity that holds you in the grip of winter. If you resist the negative, hate it, fight it, wish to be free of it, slap yourself for being negative, that is holding onto it. Resistance of the night is resistance of the day. Resistance of the negative keeps the positive at bay.
Being fully present to the negative in the mind is accepting the negative as being Just This. No story. No guilt. No resistance. When night falls, it is just this. When winter comes, it is just this. Then the spring is not far behind.
