“See if you can give more attention to an action, rather than the result that you want to achieve through it. Give your fullest attention to whatever the moment presents. This implies that you also completely accept what is, because. you cannot give your full attention to something and at the same time resist. ” Ekchart Tolle (from A New Earth)
One must develop an art or craft where you can practice the surrender of Now, something that does not carry the weight of your investment in future. Giving attention to an action is surrendering to your hands or feet. Let them tell you what to do. Let your fingers do the writing, your hand do the paining, your feet do the dancing. Practice, practice, practice giving it up to your art. This is meditation.
Turn your household chores into practice, into meditation. When washing the dishes, just wash the dishes. When making coffee, just make coffee. Notice how the mind compulsively moves off the acton. Make your life a meditation. Be conscious.
