What is the End of the Ego? First what is the Ego but our sense of separate self that is cut away from reality, or the Present Moment (Now), as a sense of a thing, or just something. I’m something the Ego says. Since we are now aware of this Something, the Ego or little self is unconscious. If we were conscious of this something, this something would not be there because the Awareness of it would be who we are instead of this something that remains beyond the conscious mind. So what does the Ego as unconsciousness want? It wants to be conscious. Where can the Ego be conscious, since it can’t be conscious of itself? The Ego must be conscious in time. Therefor, the Ego creates time in order that it has a place in the future where it can become conscious.
But wait! Where is full consciousness or awareness? Now. The Ego must avoid full awareness as the Now in order to be fully aware in the future, when it does more meditation or yoga. The Ego is not ready for Prime Time. It maintains its unconsciousness by seeking full consciousness in the future. The more it tries, the more unconscious it becomes.
And yet it must try? Ah….the great double-bind of self-reflective consciousness. It seeks wholeness by divided itself like a mirror reflecting its own image into the infinity of time. The mind becomes whole when it see what it is doing as it is doing it, that its effort to be conscious just creates more pain of being unconscious.
