Today’s Sunday “Meditations on Eckhart Tolle” quote: “When you are present, when your attention is fully in the Now, Presence will flow into and transform what you do. There will be a quality and power in it. You are present when what you are doing is not primarily a means to an end (money, prestige, winning) but fulfilling in itself, when there is joy and aliveness in what you do.”
Well, if that doesn’t describe this writing and this talk, nothing does. But here the mind-blowing idea. Presence of the Now is transcendent of experience. There is no way to catch Presence and have it. As Zen says, when you are present there is One Taste. Presence has no means to end, there for Presence is not in time because its reference is not in the future, in some gaining idea. Time stops at Presence.
This is why we love music. Music is Presence. Music sings for no reason except the fulfilling joy in singing. All art is presence. Art sings for it’s own presence, so there is joy and aliveness in art.
The teaching of Tolle and the Transcendental Masters is to make your life your art. Be present, not in just your specialty, your art or hoppy, or accidental moment, but in your whole life. This requires the intention of attention.
The Intention must awake to BE present. This Intention is the very intention or drive of the Cosmos, of Life itself. In Zen this is. called Dharma and the awakened mind is called Prajna, aroused Knowing.
Presence beings with the blink of the Eye of Buddha (Presence). Something is alive in me and I know not what it is…something is alive in me on the inside of my external Being. I must let it be born. Let the labor begin.
