E. Tolle quote for the morning: “When you are aware of space, you are not really aware of anything, except awareness itself—the inner space of consciousness. Through you, the universe is becoming aware of itself! Just as space enables all things to exist and just as without silence there could be no sound, you would not exist without the vital formless dimension that is the essence of who you are.”
Lets bring this down from the Mount Everest of abstract thought to everyday mind and experience. That is Zen. What is the Zen of Tolle? What can we add to our Metaphor Tool Box
If we could open this window in everyday mind that is just empty space, would could let the intelligence of the Universe come in, couldn’t we. We would call this empty space of awareness INSIGHT, and this Insight would set us free from the bondage or horns of dilemma we usually finds ourselves in. This Insight would bring, if even for awhile, the Peace that Passes understand.
So, lets talk about how we can open this window…we have to understand what it means to “pass understanding.” I pass….we say when the cards come around for us to play. I pass…I suspend judgment. I suspend action. I suspend choice. I pass…even though I don’t understand.
Space is not something, yet it is something. To allow space is our everyday interaction with the world is opening a window to a closed room where one is going around and around looking for an exit. We pause, go to the window and open it. We suspend the need to choose the left or right horn of the dilemma.
Instead of half the Ox, either one horn or the other, the whole Ox appears. The whole Ox is the Universe activating itself as You. In the space of this open window you allow everything to exist, not just this or that. You. transcend the pairs-of-opposies, the horns that gore us. Your True Nature stands up…I know. Before I didn’t not know, but now I know.
THE METAPHOR TOOLBOX. It seems my talks are creating a metaphor to hold metaphors. A metaphor tool box is a box full of. everyday metaphors that one can use to open the window of insight into one’s own mind. You open the hood and work of it through the alchemy of the Metaphor.
A metaphor is an image, a picture like Karma Cart or Labeling Machine that one can use when you mind breaks down at a crossroads of a double-bind where you lose no matter which road you choose. A metaphor or image is more powerful than language or abstract words. Pictures precede words, so an image is more powerful than words. Advertiser know that. A meatphor is an everyday image that point is two directions at the same time. The image points to the everyday definition of the image. This is a Pen. But you might need to use the pen to open the door to your locked room. Now the pen is a lever. The metaphor would fuse the two meanings to create a pen/lever. The Metaphor is ambiguous.
When we are stuck at a crossroads or on the horns of a dilemma, we are stuck because the situation is ambiguous. One can use an ambiguous metaphor to free yourself from ambiguity.
