On Morning Joe Sen. Franken was talking about when Congress was functional and talked to each other, and he said the few times when the camera was turned off. When I heard that I connected “cameras” to the self-reflecting mind that worries about itself as an image. When self-reflection is turned on, fear is turned on. The self that is reflected in the mind is an image, and the image is not grounded in Being, in the moment, so there is fear, the fear that one is separated from Being. Knowing is separated from Being.
This is what Mad Men was all about, I think. Draper was living in a created image of himself, and he wasn’t connected to life.
Zen is a practice. Practice is a vow one makes that has no external reference. A practice has no future. You just do the practice for no reason or expectation. Oh, one begins the practice with expectation, but the practice will grind expectation away. That’s its purpose. Your practice grinds away identity with an Image. This is why Zen says Zazen or meditation is enlightenment. When you are just Now with no self reflected in an image of time, you are Just Here. And that is enlightenment….which is a verb, an action, not a noun or place and thing…which is an image. You see? Just wash dishes, just do Facebook Live.
